About Us
To preserve the history of Toowoomba Hospital and associated health services in the surrounding region and to encourage interest, awareness, and research both within the hospital community and across the community at large.
Our museum had its beginnings in March 2001 with a small display in the foyer of the Toowoomba Hospital. The display featured the first Australian appendectomy (1893) and photographs of past staff and hospital buildings. A small group of hospital staff were successful in obtaining a Federal Government Bicentenary grant and with that and support from the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation, the museum was formally established and officially opened by Beris Broderick, President of the Toowoomba Historical Society, on 4th June 2002.
The museum is run by a small group of enthusiastic amateurs, who have had various associations with the hospital over the years. Its establishment and continuing operation would not be possible without the generous support of the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation.
